MAY 2012
Neil Roderick - +2 Handicap (ex European tour professional-Walker Cup)
Neil is an elite
player who has achieved at the highest level. He is currently playing
at amateur level again and has a handicap of +2.
Neil is a 'feel'
player meaning that he has a naturally great feel for the golf club
and where it should be in the swing. He also has a natural, smooth
rhythm to his swing.
Neil's weak
area is that he sometimes hits a slight hook. Although this shot
may only happen once in a round, at the highest level this is the
difference between winning and losing.
I looked
at Neil's first movement and I could see that the club was
slightly behind the hands at waist height due to the first
movement being made by the hands, rather than the shoulders
arms and hands moving back wider and straighter in a one piece
movement. |

I looked
at Neil's first movement and I could see that the club was
slightly behind the hands at waist height. This is due to
the first movement being made by the hands, rather than the
shoulders, arms and hands moving back wider and straighter,
in a one piece movement. |

We worked on
feeling more width on the first movement, which helped to create
a more one-piece takeaway. This in turn created a wider takeaway,
which led to the hands being higher at the top of the swing. This
gave Neil more time and power, and more importantly helped him to
get the club attacking the ball from the correct angle.
Neil worked hard to replicate this, and is now playing some of his
best golf in years! He recently won the Club Championship and reached
the quarter finals of the Welsh Amateur which is particularly commendable
after such a long absence from the top level of amateur golf.
He is now looking
forward to working on his game through the winter and re-focusing
on tournament golf.
